Special Moments With Horses
"Prince Hariry's First Morning" There is something ethereal about being in the stall when a newborn foal stands and nurses for the first time. It's sacred. Mama softly nickers to him, encouraging him with little nips on his haunches. The smacking and the little milk face are so comical, but the contentment on the mama's face conveys all is right with the world. As I am looking at this new life, I'm remembering the planning, discussions, research, and hope that went into the selection of the sire, the special care and attention put into the mare, the financial investment made in futurity entries and other payback programs when the mare was bred, and the sleepless nights waiting for this special moment. It's all just such a miracle!
"Native Costume" aka "Grayson" At each Arabian horse show, the ancestry of the breed is celebrated and revered in the Native Costume class. Traditional garb signified the level of wealth or standing one had in the tribe. Horses represented a tribe's wealth and the fastest horse represented the highest value. The Arabian was built to gallop or walk across the desert sands, and to that end was his ability to win races and establish, or retain, his master's place in society. In the modern show ring, the horses are judged at the walk, canter, and hand gallop. They should move brilliantly, animated, and in control. It is a crowd favorite and the crowd loves to cheer for its favorite! Very exciting. This painting is of me on my Nabiel son, Grayson! That horse has a story I love to tell!
"Blue Chip Socks" Ahh! What wonderful horses we have in Half-Arabians! The registry was started by the US Mounted Cavalry when they recognized the qualities the Arabian brought to the breeding program for their horses. Today, the Half-Arabian / Half-Saddlebred is a highly sought after cross for the high trotting, English Pleasure divisions. Half Arabian- Half-Quarter Horses are leading the Open Reining classes. And the Half-Arabian/Half-Thoroughbred, or Anglo-Arabian, is legendary in endurance competitions.
